This healthcare solar installation reflects National Energy Installers’ engineer-led approach to complex, phased commercial energy infrastructure. Across six completed facilities, NEI has installed 2.22 MW of rooftop solar paired with 3.13 MWh of battery storage, with six additional facilities currently in engineering. Delivered as a single coordinated infrastructure program across a distributed Southern California healthcare network, the project represents NEI’s largest and most technically demanding site portfolio to date.

About This Healthcare Energy Infrastructure Project

The Challenge

A distributed healthcare network cannot tolerate power interruption, and a facility-by-facility approach to solar and storage would have meant re-solving the same engineering, permitting, and interconnection problems twelve separate times. This healthcare solar installation also required a mounting approach that would not compromise roof membrane integrity above patient care and critical operating areas at any of the twelve sites.

The Solution

NEI engineered a phased rollout using a consistent equipment platform: Silfab 580W panels, Solis S5 90K inverters, and dual FEB battery units at every site, scaled individually from roughly 200 kW to nearly 750 kW. All sites use Sun Ballast non-penetrating mounting, keeping the roof membrane fully intact. Permitting was handled entirely in-house by NEI’s team, and each site’s battery storage was sized to support demand charge reduction and backup resilience. This approach reflects guidance from the U.S. Department of Energy on resilient power for critical facilities, which identifies hospitals as a sector where distributed solar and storage deliver the clearest operational value.
